Why is Easter The Most Confusing Holiday?

Many enjoy the annual Easter holiday in our various ways, but if you take a moment to reflect on what Easter is about you can be excused for quickly becoming confused.

Easter is mainly a Christian religious festival, celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ after he died on the Cross. For many Christians, Easter is the most important time in their year, because it deals with matters that lie at the very heart of their faith.

So what has that got to do with Easter bunnies? Hiding eggs? Chocolate Candy?

To add to the confusion, have you ever tried to plan an Easter holiday away, only to discover it is celebrated at a different time this year from the date it was held last year? Easter Sunday computations can see it fall anywhere between March 22 and April 25. It falls on March 23 in 2008, making this year’s celebrations an exceptionally early Easter. It will next fall on the 23rd in 2160 and on the 22nd in 2285.

The Christian Easter festivities owe much, including the date they are celebrated, to the earlier Jewish Passover festivities, which are based on the Hebrew lunisolar calendar. The complications come from the translation of dates based on the cycles of the moon and the sun to our Gregorian calendar.

For many, Easter is also a time to celebrate the new life and renewal of growth that is associated with Spring. This idea is part of a more recent move to secularize the holiday, including suggestions to rename Easter as Spring Holiday. But what if you live in the Southern Hemisphere where Easter is celebrated as leaves fall and Winter approaches?

Other regional oddities associated with Easter can also be confusing to travelers. In parts of Eastern Europe you might encounter an Easter tradition of men splashing women with water, and giving them a symbolic whipping. In parts of Scandinavia, Easter resembles Halloween, with children dressed as witches going from door to door exchanging candy for decorated branches of sprouting pussy willow.

Such traditions, and the link between Easter and Spring, are unrelated to Christian traditions. They owe more to the older pagan celebration of the end of a long hard winter and the beginnings of renewed growth and new life. This tradition is symbolized by the giving of Easter eggs, which still remains extremely popular, especially in today’s popular commercialized form of the chocolate Easter egg.

The idea of the Easter Bunny is believed to have descended from a pagan association between Easter and the sight of male hares facing off in the fields as part of their Spring mating rituals, which also gave rise to the common saying, “mad as a March hare”. The Easter hare, along with the Easter egg, became a symbol of fertility and new life at Springtime. Somewhere along the way someone must have decided cute little bunnies were more commercially appealing than cavorting hares.

Confusing though this mix of traditions may seem, we all choose how to celebrate Easter in our own way, as a holiday with its origins merged from many cultures and from long, long ago.

Why Companies Give Promotional Gifts During The Holidays?

Businesses are now increasingly aware of the benefits and advantages of giving promotional gifts to their customers during the holiday season. While in the past this action might have been considered to be a waste of money, now it is viewed as a great marketing tactics to promote both the brand and the image of the company. Many corporations especially in France have created marketing budgets under the heading ‘objet publicitaire’.

Promotional gifts are gifts that are customized with the logo, color and brand name of the company and given out to customers and public in general. Promotional items may vary from one country to another. French people can check out an interesting article (cadeaux entreprises achat grossiste) that can help you in finding great gifts at affordable prices. The primary example of a benefit of promotional gifts is that it is effective.

For example, a person that is using a branded pen will be exposed regularly to the brand and therefore become influenced. Another advantage of this type of gifts is that it uses the customers as marketing agents to promote the brand of a company. When a person wears a t-shirt that has the logo of a company printed on it, this person began to act as a marketing agent of the company.

7 Secrets to Improve Your Ski Rental Experience

Do you dread walking into the rental shop every time you take a ski vacation? Do you find the whole rental process to be tedious, tiresome, and utterly frustrating? You are not alone.

Many people find walking into the rental shop to be their least favorite part of their ski trip. This does not have to be the case. Your rental experience can be extremely pleasant and fun.

If you follow these seven tips, you might even come to find the entire process to be something that you look forward to on your next ski vacation.

  1. Avoid the rush! Most rental shops are busiest between 8:00-10:30 AM and 3:00-6:00 PM. Don’t try rent during these peak hours. If possible, rent during the off hours. You find a much less crowded shop during this time, which offers you several benefits. You go through the entire rental process much more quickly when fewer customers are in the shop. You will also receive far better service. When the shop is packed with people, the rental tech’s main goal is to get everyone out as quickly as possible. When the shop is less swamped, they can spend much more time with you, answering all your questions, and making sure you receive the best possible fit.
  2. Make advance reservations. Many ski shops will take advance reservations. This speeds up your rental process. When you walk into the shop, they will already have all of your information on file and will have set aside equipment for you prior to your arrival. This is especially important if you must rent during a peak time of the year, such as Christmas, or other major holiday weekend.
  3. Make sure you know all of your family’s personal information before you arrive at the shop. You will need to know the height, weight, and shoe size of everyone in your family. If you have to figure out this information at the shop, it will slow down the whole process a great deal.
  4. Understand that ski gear is not supposed to be comfortable. You are not renting slippers. Ski boots are supposed to fit extremely tight and snug. If your boots feel too comfortable, they are probably too big. Many customers get bogged down trying on 7 or 8 different pairs of boots looking for the “perfect fit” (i.e. a comfortable boot). Understanding that the right fit will be very tight and probably not very comfortable will save a lot of time and the needless trying on of lots of boots. However, ski boots aren’t supposed to hurt, either. If they do, you’ll want to try on a different pair.
  5. If possible, buy boots and only rent skis. It is easy to rent a pair of brand new, top-of-the-line skis that will make your time on the mountain a lot of fun. However, it is much harder to find a rental boot that fits your foot well. Most rental boots have been on hundreds of people’s feet before you wear them. This doesn’t make for much of a custom fit. If you buy your boots, you can get a pair that is custom fit to your foot. This will make your ski experience far more enjoyable. It will also cut down on a lot of time in the rental shop, since the boot fitting process takes the most time.
  6. Keep everything except your sock out of your boot. Many people try to shove all of their layers (ski underwear, ski pants, etc.) into their ski boots. This actually makes it harder for your boot to fit properly. You only want your sock in your boot. Everything else should go outside of your boot. Also, stick to one pair of socks. Wearing two pairs actually makes your feet colder, and your boot will not fit as well.
  7. Do not be afraid to ask questions of the rental techs. Most people who work in a ski shop are passionate and knowledgeable about the sport and most love to talk about it. Ask them questions about gear, snow conditions, the best places to ski on the mountain, and the best places to go in town when you get off the mountain. They will most likely give you some good advice that will make your vacation much more enjoyable.

As you can see, it is very easy to drastically improve your rental experience. It no longer has to be the hellish nightmare you’ve always remembered. Prepare to look forward to your time in the rental shop.

Doing so can help make your ski trip a vacation to remember.
